”Klin-1” Robotic complex

Soviet robotic complex “Klin-1” was created for liquidation of the consequences of accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which occurred on April 26, 1986.[1-4] [10]

The complex was designed and manufactured during 44 days (from April to June of 1986).[5] It was used in the area of the accident from July to December of 1986 in areas with radiation levels, inadmissible for any other equipment with crew.[7]

The complex consisted of the remote-controlled unmanned vehicle-robot and control machine with crew (two people).[7]

The vehicle-robot “Object 032” was made on the basis of the Combat engineering vehicle IMR-2 (created on the basis of basic T-72 tank, put into service in 1980, mass production – since 1982) with its equipment by additions for the deactivation work, the complex of remote control system via TV and Radio commands, the system of gamma-locators. The ability of control of the machine by crew was retained for work in an area with normal radioactive background.[7]

The control machine “Object 033” was carried out on the chassis of the T-72A tank and it is designed to manage the vehicle-robot. The driver, operator, equipment for observation, reconnaissance and robot control were placed in the modified forebody of the hull, separated by a partition.[7]

Robotic complex “Klin-1” was created in one copy. After doing all the work, complex was buried in the special cemetery (because of strong radioactive contamination).
